GABRIELLE LIM MEI JOO

Sarikei-born artist, Gabrielle has been passionate in arts especially in drawing portraits and human figures since her early childhood years. She is a student of Sarawak Fine Art Academy and graduated with Diploma in Graphic Design at the Malaysian Institute of Art and obtained her Bachelor Degree in Graphic Design from Berkeley International University. Her paintings celebrate and preserve the culture, people and places of Sarawak, a place which is close to her heart. She sketches and paints in various mediums such as acrylic, watercolour, ink, charcoal and mixed media. She is currently a committee and life member of the Sarawak Artist Society and Urban Sketchers Kuching. Her works can be found displayed at numerous arts exhibitions like the annual Sarawak Artists Society exhibition, Rimba Sarawak, Caring for Sarawak Our Common Home, Exploring Sarawakian Heritage - Gawai Art Exhibition, Urban Sketchers Kuching, Ngajah Duoh Sua and many others.

Rhythm of Ngajat Induk

“Ngajat Induk” is a traditional Iban dance performed only by the women. The dancer’s movement is gentle and graceful with very precise body turns. The music accompanying the dance is “Taboh” which mimics the sound of the natural environment. Regardless of where this dance is performed, it will bring you back to the jungle of Borneo.
