LEONARD SIAW QUAN CHENG

A young, talented renowned self-taught muralist, Leonard projects art in a very different way where walls become his canvas. He is the first Asian to be part of the Wall to Wall Festival Benalla 2018 held at Melbourne, Australia. Leonard graduates from Limkokwing University and Anglia Ruskin University. He is currently a full-time mural artist and a part-time graphic designer. His artworks specialises in infusing realism with optical illusion which accentuate the interaction between the viewer and his artwork. His creations became tourist landmarks in Kuching, Sarawak and gives impact to the local Street Art scene. His works can be seen in several prominent places in the city such as The Borneo House Museum, SJK Chung Hua No. 2 Kuching, Singgahsana Lodge wall at Temple Street in Kuching, Metro 360 Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Foodcourt at Genting Highlands and many others. He actively joined various competitions and exhibitions like “Strong Word” Art Exhibition, Tun Jugah Portrait Drawing Competition, Rainforest World Bazaar T-shirt Design Contest and many more. He is a member of Sarawak Artist Society.

This painting portrays a Bidayuh rice farmer. The Bidayuh is the second largest ethnic group in Sarawak. Rice is wealth for them, they treat rice with respect. As if the rice has a soul and life. The colors in this painting can be pretty, dirty or messy, just like soil. To most people, its just dirt. To a farmer, its potential.
